- How are our Honors seminars and other Honors recognized/theses/ind. study/contracts going to work?
We are working with Honors professors to move their courses to D2L. If you’re working with a professor for another form of coursework, i.e., independent studies or theses, please reach out to them so you both know what is expected for the duration of the semester.
- I was going to come to mentoring soon. What do I do?
Your mentor will reach out to you if you signed up in their book. You can still have your mentoring appointment, but it may be over phone, email, skype, etc. If you did not sign up yet, just email them and you can discuss a day and time that works best to talk.
- How do I reserve a spot for an honors course?
Current Honors students can still sign up for a Fall 2020 UHON Seminar.
- Please review the course listing, and know for what section you wish to sign up. Meet our Spring 2020 faculty.
- Email honors@siu.edu with your Name, Dawgtag, Course, and Section.
- You will receive your CRN within the week via email.
- Be sure to have your RUN number from your academic advisor
Incoming Fall 2020 students can reserve a course this summer. We will be sending an email out prior to your reservation day with an updated list of available seats per course.
The days to reserve are as follows:
Monday, June 1st – Transfers with Associate’s Degrees
Tuesday, June 2nd – All other incoming students
- Please review the course listing, and know what section you wish to sign up for (meaning what core curriculum you need covered by the class).
- Meet our Spring 2020 faculty.
- If the course is full, you may opt to be on the waiting list, but there is no assurance you will get into the course.
- On your day to reserve, email honors@siu.edu with:
- Your name
- Dawg Tag
- Current email and SIU email (if you have it)
- Desired course and section
You may send this anytime throughout the day.
We will respond with a CRN* – this is the number you will use on Salukinet to register.
*If you have not seen your academic advisor yet at New Student Orientation, that’s okay! Just hold on to this number and give it to them when you register for your Fall courses!*
If you have questions, concerns, or need anything at all, please reach out to us at honors@siu.edu.
- What about upcoming service trips?
Honors service trips are canceled. Other, larger events (such as the Big Event, our Leadership and Service Retreat, etc) are definitively canceled, due to the fact that campus will be closed.
- How will I fulfill my civic engagement hours?
Given the international crisis, we are suspending the civic engagement requirement at this time. If conditions do not warrant pursuing service before the end of the academic year, current student hours will suffice.
- What about honors thesis proposals?
The Honors Thesis proposals deadline for Summer 2020 has been pushed to April 27th. Fall 2020 proposals are due July 10th.
Here is a fillable PDF so you can submit it digitally.
If your faculty advisor for your thesis cannot sign it, that’s okay! They can email us with their approval.
Any questions, let us know at honors@siu.edu.
- Is the UHP office/Morris Library open?
Except for the Extended Hours Area (including the computer lab in room 130), the Morris Library building is closed. All staff interactions are now online. Contact a librarian through instant messaging or email. This service will be available 8AM-9PM Monday-Friday, and 8AM-8PM Saturday and Sunday.
