Learning in University Honors

Living Learning Community

The Living Learning Community builds a strong foundation for university life and is the start of life-long friendships.   University Honors students live in Smith Hall on West Campus.  The Honors LLC is a thriving community that celebrates the Honors ethos of learning across academic disciplines, valuing the richness of social life, and taking ownership over one's journey.

Eligibility: The University Honors Program Living Learning Community (LLC) is open to students in the University Honors Program. First-year Honors students who have not elected to reside in the LLC of their academic program or in an Academic LLC are strongly encouraged to live in the Honors LLC.

Accounting/Finance

  • Beta Alpha Psi - Honor society in accounting and financial information

Achievement

  • Alpha Lambda Delta - To encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year of higher education
  • Sigma Alpha Lambda - To recognize and reward academic achievement; to create opportunities for community service
  • SUMMIT (Scholars United Making Major Input a Tradition) - To positively impact the university, provide an open forum for communication for Full Academic Scholars
  • Phi Kappa Phi - The recognition and encouragement of superior scholarship in all academic disciplines

Agriculture

  • Alpha Zeta - A professional organization of men and women whose educational and career objectives fall within the field of agriculture and natural resources
  • Xi Sigma Pi - Forestry Honor Society to promote, secure, and maintain a high standard of scholarship within forest resources management education.

Anthropology

  • Lambda Alpha Delta Chapter - The local campus chapter of the National Anthropology Honor Society, known as Lambda Alpha.  The society aims to stimulate scholarship and research in anthropology by recognizing and honoring superior academic achievement in the discipline.

Architecture

  • Tau Sigma Delta Is the national honor society for architecture and allied arts at SIUC, headquartered within the School of Architecture in Quigley Hall. It recognizes students who maintain high scholastic standing, promoting leadership, character, and excellence in design

Aviation

  • Alpha Eta Rho - Aviation Fraternity that actively associates interested students of aviation with the leaders and executives in the industry

Biology/Sciences

  • Beta Beta Beta - A national honors/professional society for students of life sciences. Promotes scholarship, dissemination of biological knowledge, and research

Business

  • Beta Alpha Psi - Beta Alpha Psi is an international honorary organization for students majoring in Accounting, Finance, or MIS
  • Beta Gamma Sigma - The national honor society for business students who are enrolled in AACSB-accredited colleges
  • Eta Sigma Delta - An international hospitality management honor society or one of our registered student organizations for enhanced networking and hands-on learning experiences

Computing

Criminology and Criminal Justice

  • Alpha Phi Sigma - Criminal Justice Honor Society. The fraternity's five core values shape its mission, emphasizing character, leadership, and mutual respect.

Education

  • Eta Sigma Gamma - An honorary Health Education fraternity for health education students; dedicated to teaching, research, and service in the professional area of health education
  • Kappa Delta Pi - To recognize excellence in education and elect to membership those who exhibit the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards, and promise in teaching and allied professions

Engineering

  • Eta Kappa Nu - To uphold the purposes and to promote and encourage excellence in electrical and computer engineering education
  • Tau Beta Pi-Epsilon Chapter -  The only engineering honor society that represents the entire engineering profession. It signifies distinguished scholarship and exemplary character by engineering students and alumni in engineering-related fields.

English

  • Sigma Tau Delta - An international honor society for students majoring or minoring in English with a 3.0 GPA

Greek Life

  • Order of Omega - A co-ed national honor society comprised of the top 3% of SIU's Greek community; members are successful student leaders dedicated to SIU, community service, and scholarship
  • Rho Lambda - To honor those women in the sorority community who have exhibited the highest qualities of leadership and service to their Greek community and their sorority

History

  • Phi Alpha Theta - An honor society to promote historical study and recognize scholastic achievement while fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie amongst history scholars

Language

  • American Sign Language (ASL) Honor Society - A national organization established in 2006 by the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA). It is dedicated to recognizing academic excellence in ASL studies and fostering a deeper understanding of Deaf culture and advocacy.
  • Eta Sigma Phi - National honor society designed for students who study and appreciate the classical Greek and Latin languages and literatures and Greek and Roman civilizations.

Mortuary Science and Funeral Services

  • Sigma Phi Sigma - Professional and service co-ed fraternity for funeral service practitioners

Political Science

  • Pi Sigma Alpha - The only college-level honor society for political science and government students in the United States

Psychology

  • Psi Chi - A national honor society in Psychology; to encourage academic achievement among members and to advance the science of psychology

Radiological Sciences

  • Lambda Nu - National Honor Society for Radiologic and Imaging Science

  • Sigma Delta Pi - Is the largest foreign-language honor society in the world. It is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica).
